3D Body Scans and Psychedelic Geometry

If you give 3D technology to a national home-improvement retailer, they’ll use it to sell things. If you give 3D technology to a music video director, they’ll find ways to misuse it on purpose, to push its limits, and maybe even go full on psychedelic. Kouhei Nakama is squarely in the second group.

The visual art director recently released a wonderfully weird music video for the track “Hella” by Broke for Free. It features 3D scans of human models that are broken into abstract shapes by the beat—an approach to visualizing the tune that’s so spectacular it threatens to upstage the music.
