In Hall C3 at booth #124, the RIEGL team will present the numerous advantages of using RIEGL Ultimate LiDARTM Technology in building construction and civil engineering, particularly its integration into the digital BIM process. Practical examples from various BIM phases, such as recording existing structures, quality assurance during construction documentation, will demonstrate the impressive performance of RIEGL technologies.
The incredibly versatile and extremely fast RIEGL VZ-600i laser scanner sets new standards in 3D surveying, addressing the critical features necessary for the consistent implementation of a BIM construction site.
High Accuracy in the Millimeter Range
Highly accurate and reliable construction site data is essential for both new construction and the renovation of large structures, such as highway bridges. No detail, no matter how small, is lost when initial data is recorded during the planning phase, preventing costly errors later on.
For large structures like highway bridges or significant civil engineering projects, this accuracy is crucial, even over long distances and within tight timeframes.
Faster Data Collection and Less Downtime
Time on site is costly, making scanning time a decisive factor, especially on large construction sites. Certain areas can often only be accessed briefly for safety reasons. It makes a significant difference whether a scan with a panoramic image is completed in 30 seconds or 3 minutes with the same parameters. With over 200 scan positions typical for an average project, this can result in up to 5 hours of time savings, helping to maintain construction operations without major interruptions and keeping costs low.
Range for Complex Construction Sites
Construction often occurs in extensive and complex environments, such as track construction, industrial sites, or road and highway construction. The range is crucial for efficiently recording large structures like highway or railroad bridges or entire construction sections. With a measuring range of up to 1,000 meters, the RIEGL VZ-600i is well-equipped for these tasks, capable of accurately recording around 300 scan positions of a freeway bridge in a single day.
Rugged Design
Construction sites are not clean rooms; equipment must withstand harsh conditions with dust and moisture. It is advantageous if no rotating components (such as mirrors) are directly exposed to these conditions, as this can lead to high service and repair costs. The RIEGL VZ-600i, with protection class IP64, is ideally prepared for such environments, delivering reliable measurements even under demanding conditions.
Data Privacy
Complying with various data protection guidelines and laws can be challenging for geodata service providers. For this reason, AI-supported face and license plate recognition has been implemented in the RIEGL VZ-600i for the first time in terrestrial laser scanners. Faces and license plates are blurred in photos from the internal cameras before they are saved during the scanning process.
Flexibility and Versatile Application Options
Procuring a laser scanner is an investment, so the device should be as versatile as possible. The RIEGL VZ-600i offers additional capabilities beyond building scanning, such as building monitoring and flatness tests. It can be used for spontaneous monitoring of structures in the event of an incident or for regular, continuous monitoring to document construction progress. Defined targets can be monitored via prisms and retro-reflecting targets, and full-surface monitoring is possible by comparing point clouds recorded at different times. The RIEGL VZ-600i can also perform necessary flatness checks on construction sites quickly and precisely.
The RIEGL team will be happy to demonstrate the scanner’s advantages with various practical examples, both during data acquisition and subsequent data processing. Demonstrations can be arranged directly at the prospective customer’s premises to address specific application requirements, consider existing structures, and present an optimized workflow.
