February 11, 2013 (Portland, Maine) – Professor Heinz Rüther, Principal Investigator, Zamani Project, will deliver a keynote address at the 10th Annual SPAR International Conference on End-to-End 3D entitled “The Spatial Documentation of Petra, UNESCO World Heritage Site.” The presentation describes the documentation process of the Jordanian site, including the basis for a stability study of rock formations; a GIS for site management purposes and virtual reality tour; and a permanent record for reconstruction in future if necessary. SPAR International takes place April 15-18, 2013 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
“Professor Rüther’s experience documenting Petra is truly extraordinary,” said Lisa Murray, Director of SPAR International. “The project is unusual due to its physical extent and complexity of the documented features.” In the end, he and his Zamani research team from the University of Cape Town acquired a total of 1,750 scans.
