As the 3D-capture market matures, vendors are continuing to fill out their product lines with solutions that are ever faster, less expensive, higher quality, and so on. They are also starting to specialize, offering solutions that are designed for for very specific uses—much to the joy of their users who can have just the right thing for their applications.
Veteran vendor RIEGL is at the forefront of this movement, and the company offers a lidar sensor for nearly any application you can think of. However, RIEGL is also careful not to lose flexibility in those designs, or to leave their legacy users behind. It’s a tough balance to strike, and when I caught up with RIEGL at ILMF this year, they showed me their latest solutions and chatted a bit about their strategy to keep meeting the needs of all their users.
