Every day at Geo Week News, we publish the most important press releases from the industry to keep those within the industry up-to-date with all of the news they need to know. Of course, we know it can be difficult to keep up with everything coming in, so we’re going to look back at the week that was in news every Friday to recap the biggest happenings of the last five days. Today, we have a lot of partnerships and agreements between companies, as well as new and updated products, some leadership changes, and more.
Partnerships Galore
The biggest theme across our news this week was companies from throughout the geospatial industry announcing new partnerships and interoperability between companies. This was particularly prevalent in the Earth observation space this week, with a trio of partnerships announced this week. That includes one between two leaders in the sector, Maxar and Satellogic, who announced a new agreement that they say will enhance the former’s ability to monitor and detect change. Additionally, consteller announced a new contract with the German Space Agency to provide GSA’s community in EO research with their thermal data. Finally, Picterra and Planet announced a new partnership to combine the data from the latter with the former’s AI capabilities to maximize insights.
Given the growth around the Earth observation sector expected in the coming year, it’s no surprise that companies are finding complements to their offerings to maximize their status in the sector and deliver the highest quality data to the growing market.
Outside of the EO sector, we saw a few other partnership agreements. That includes a cooperation between SimActive and Balko Tech, adding the former’s Correlator3D product to complement the latter’s lidar mapping systems. We also saw a new integration between Swift Navigation and CHC Navigation to, in their words, “unlock the next generation of location-based products.” Going back to the UK, Frontier Agriculture and Esri UK signed a new agreement to bring geospatial solutions to the agriculture industry. Finally, in the AEC industry we saw an “enhanced interoperability” between Snaptrude and the Nemetshek Group, allowing for a more seamless workflow in the architecture and design space.
Other News
The partnerships were the big theme of the week, but we had some other miscellaneous news come down the wire as well. That includes a pair of new and improved products, starting with a new AI platform using data from Bluesky International. The tool, Viability, integrates Bluesky’s aerial imagery with AI to address the UK’s housing crisis. Meanwhile, Earthcam announced this week a newly upgraded Live Weather Service to be used for construction management.
This week also saw a pair of announcements coming from one of the industry’s biggest companies, Hexagon. Following an earlier announcement this year around changes at the very top of their company, they have now announced new shuffling at the top of their Geosystems division. Additionally, they announced a new acquisition of 3D Systems’ Geomagic suite of software, used to create 3D models from multiple sources. We’ve talked many times recently about the trend toward combining multiple data sources, and Hexagon appears to be leaning into that trend with this acquisition.
Finally, for some other miscellaneous announcements from the week:
Trimble announced winners from their SketchUp 0-60 Challenge, which invited “entrepreneurs, early-stage startups, and developers to leverage SketchUp to develop transformative technology solutions that solve common industry pain points.”
Over in Australia, Woolpert Australia invested in a new RIEGL VZ-600i scanner for their surveying suite.
Gulf52 announced the integration of lidar into their services for water damage restoration.
