London, United Kingdom | October 1, 2024 - buildingSMART International (bSI) and the Alliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD) are pleased to announce a liaison agreement to facilitate cooperation on topics of mutual interest relating to the development and use of open digital standards. This partnership is designed to enhance the industry by identifying and exploiting potential synergies between buildingSMART International’s work to further develop open standards for Building Information Modelling (BIM) and AOUSD’s standards for OpenUSD.

Clive Billiald, Chief Executive of buildingSMART International, commented, "This liaison agreement with the Alliance for OpenUSD is exciting as it allows us to bring together different perspectives to tackle the challenges of data access and interoperability. The opportunity to work alongside AOUSD as we deliver the next phases of our Technical Roadmap is invaluable.”

"This liaison between AOUSD and buildingSMART International represents a strategic step towards evolving OpenUSD to support the future of AEC industry standards. There are many synergies across our organizations, and we believe our work on OpenUSD can help ensure that the building asset industry remains adaptable in an increasingly digital landscape." - Steve May, Chief Technology Officer at Pixar and Chairperson of AOUSD. It is important to note that this agreement does not confer membership of either party in the other organization. Instead, it focuses on fostering cooperation and mutual support to achieve common goals.
