Reality Capture to be a Central Part of the Geo Week 2025 Conference Program

A look at a few of the reality capture-focused sessions on this year’s Geo Week conference program.

Just like every year, one of the core tenets of the conference program for Geo Week 2025 is reality capture, a sector that continues to grow and evolve, changing workflows for both the geospatial and AEC industries. This year figures to have even more reality capture content than past years with the new addition of Reality Capture Network as a conference program. RCN will now have an entire track of content featured at Geo Week, being held in Denver, Colorado, February 10-12, 2025.

Given the wide-ranging uses and tools associated with reality capture, it should come as no surprise that the content relating to reality capture at this year’s event runs the gamut. From focuses on specific products and more general product categories to fascinating case studies showing tangible use cases in which this technology transformed projects, and of course panel discussions talking about the biggest questions being posed in the industry. Below, find just a handful of the reality capture sessions that will be on the program for this year’s Geo Week conference, and don’t miss your chance to register for the event.

Exploring the Ecosystem of Reality Capture & Digital Twins

February 11 | 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM MT

We start with a panel discussion that serves as part of the aforementioned RCN track at this year’s event. Featuring speakers from Prevu3D, Woolpert, and Image Matters LLC, the panel will dive into both reality capture and digital twins – two of the biggest buzzwords in the industry today – and explore the interconnectedness of the tools. They will look at how all of these different technologies are coming together to bring huge value to those who are leveraging them, and some of the challenges that come from getting started in the space. The session figures to provide value for both owners who are interested in getting involved with digital twins, and reality capture service providers who are looking to expand their offerings.

Capturing Alcatraz: A Unique Gathering of Technology and Talent

February 12 | 11:00 AM - 11:40 AM MT

One of the most exciting parts of Geo Week every year is hearing fascinating case studies exploring how the technologies we all hear about every day are being used in the real world, and this is one of the most well-known examples from the last few years. A team of experts, including speaker Pete Kelsey, came together to provide a full reality capture scan of the famous Alcatraz Island in San Francisco, a project that has been featured in many publications including the New York Times. Kelsey will be on-hand at this year’s event to talk about the project, how the technologies were used, challenges that arose, and more.

The Impact of Democratizing Reality Capture Tools

February 10 | 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM MT

In the world of reality capture, it’s nearly impossible to avoid the word “democratization.” As companies continue to iterate on both their hardware and their software, making both more accessible to potential non-expert users, they talk about how the space of reality capture is being democratized. There is certainly a lot of value to that idea, but there is also some growing tension around the idea, and where true, trained experts are still needed. This panel session aims to get into this problem, looking at just what democratization means in this context, and the positives and negatives that come from it.

Revolutionizing AEC with Radiance Fields and Scan-to-BIM for Enhanced Digital Workflows

February 12 | 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM MT

One of the most important developments in reality capture over the last couple of years has been the emergence of radiance fields as well as Scan-to-BIM. This session, another on the RCN track, aims to talk through both of these developments and how they have changed the AEC industry. These tools and techniques are fairly new for these industries, and this session will give attendees a chance to hear first-hand from experts about how to work with and maximize value from these tools.

How Will Your Children be Scanning the World?

February 11 | 2:15 PM - 2:45 PM

The reality capture space is ever-evolving, and so it can be hard to look more than a year or two in the future because things change so quickly. It’s almost incomprehensible to think about the next generation of work coming 10 or 20 years down the line. That’s exactly what this session aims to do. Speakers in this session will be looking into the future and look at the next generation of scanning technology and workflows, giving attendees some ideas to keep in mind as they look to stay on the cutting-edge in this field.
