Recognizing these challenges, the European Association of Aerial Surveying Industries (EAASI) has taken a proactive stance. Established in 2019, EAASI now represents over 50 companies and has become a powerful advocate for the aerial surveying sector in Europe. At the heart of EAASI's mission is a commitment to promoting growth and innovation, with a particular focus on attracting and nurturing the next generation of geospatial professionals.

To this end, EAASI has launched a series of initiatives designed to engage students and recent graduates, showcasing the diverse opportunities and cutting-edge technologies that define modern aerial surveying. Let's explore some of these innovative programs:

The Outstanding Thesis Award: Bridging Science and Business

EAASI's "Spatial Business Bridge" Outstanding Thesis Award is a groundbreaking initiative that encourages postgraduate students to explore the intersection of geospatial technology and business applications. This award celebrates scientific works at the Master's, Doctorate, or Post-Doc levels that successfully demonstrate how technical geospatial applications can drive value in both public and private sectors.

Winners of this prestigious award receive more than just the €2000 cash prize. They're invited to the Annual EAASI Partner Summit, given a certificate of recognition and trophy, featured in EAASI's "Hall of Fame," and have their work published in a business journal. This comprehensive package of rewards not only recognizes academic excellence but also provides valuable networking and exposure opportunities for budding professionals.

Young Ambassador Program: Inspiring the Next Generation

EAASI's Young Ambassador Program takes a different approach, focusing on early-career professionals already working within member companies. This initiative selects talented individuals to serve as ambassadors for the industry, showcasing the diverse and dynamic career paths available in aerial surveying.

The program's inaugural ambassadors, Alice Hilton from Bluesky International and Johann Sidial from BSF Swissphoto, exemplify the variety of roles and backgrounds found in modern geospatial careers. Alice, a Product Specialist, brings her expertise in tree mapping and climate change to the development of environmental products. Johann, a Team Leader in Photogrammetry, manages large-scale projects across Europe and has a background that spans academia and government work.

Webinars and Sponsorships: Broadening the Reach

Complementing these flagship programs, EAASI has launched a series of webinars that dive deep into the diverse career opportunities within the industry. These sessions feature speakers from various backgrounds sharing their career journeys, day-to-day responsibilities, and the skills required to succeed in the field.

Additionally, EAASI's sponsorship of the International Geodetic Student Organisation Meeting (IGSM) since 2022 demonstrates its commitment to supporting the broader geospatial community.
